Screencasting records a digital device’s screen and audio (typically spoken narration). This practice creates content for participants to engage with at their own time and pace. Common examples are tutorials, presentations, and lectures/lessons.

Recommendations

• Start with the goal for using screencasting
  • Examples, 
    • Extend new and relevant learning beyond just live instruction.
    • Prepare students by sharing a long or short lecture before live instruction by flipping the classroom.
    • Show and explain a process. E.g. demonstrating mathematical equations, how to use a design software for an assignment, etc.
• Prepare:
  • Consider creating a script if you’re planning to record audio or narrate
  • Practice.
• Select an ZenU tool:
  • Kaltura Capture can record a device’s screen, audio, and presenter’s face. This will produce a video in your ZenU Stream that can be embedded in Brightspace.
  • PowerPoint allows recording of audio and presenter’s face for each slide. This approach will chunk screencasting/recording throughout a presentation.
  • Zoom sessions can record the device's screen, audio, and presenter’s face. The host of a meeting can save, download, and upload a recording into ZenU Stream or  
• Share content in Brightspace
  • Add a PowerPoint or ZenU Stream video via Brightspace’s “Content”. By adding the content under a created “Unit” or within a created “HTML Document”.
• Ongoing usage
  • The content can be reused in future Brightspace content migrations.
