Course Hero Infringement: How to File a Takedown Notice

What is Course Hero?

Course Hero is an online platform where members can access course-specific resources contributed by students and educators. In many cases, inappropriate material has been shared to the platform, which is proprietary to ZenU ZenU and in many cases, the intellectual property of the instructor. Such materials have included: PowerPoint presentations, syllabi, test/quiz questions, study guides, etc.

What to do if your content has been shared to Course Hero

If your materials have been shared to Course Hero and you'd like them removed, the easiest step is to file a takedown notice via their website. If you do not wish to use the form, you may submit written documentation following these guidelines.

Filing the takedown form

1. Select Submit a Takedown Notice
2. Select "has posted my copyrighted work without my permission" unless a different choice is more appropriate for your situation.
3. Indicate who is impacted (1. Who is impacted?). In some cases, an administrator might be filing on behalf of someone else, in this case, select My Company, organization, or client.
4.  Complete the specifics of the work (2. Description of the infringed work). Note, you only need to include the title of the impacted resource, you do not need to find the original document to share with Course Hero. Be sure to include all work.
5. Provide the contact information for the University, not your personal information. Please use: 82 Washington Sq East, New York, NY, 10003. Provide your work telephone and email contact information in order to receive confirmation of the takedown.
6. Check all 4 boxes where it says: 4. By checking the following boxes, I state that... *
7. Type your first and last name.
8. Select the captcha box(I'm not a robot).
9. Submit

How long does a takedown take?

A takedown by Course Hero can take about 48 hours. You will be notified via email about the removal of the resource.
